Blog Report: SUDAN – SOUTH SUDAN RESUME FLOW OF OIL & BLOOD, By Ambassador Mo
Agreement has been reached between Sudan & South Sudan on resuming oil production & exports for joint benefit, (mainly via pipelines leading through the north). The deal was just signed today in Addis Ababa under mediation efforts of African Union & the United Nations after months of border conflict & a shut down of oil that has had impact on real economic growth in both countries.

Blog Report: WILL SUDAN OIL DEAL EASE HUMANITARIAN EMERGENCY? By Ambassador Mo
Urged on by the African Union, South Sudan & Sudan have apparently resolved at least part of their dispute over transfer of petroleum. South Sudan had accused Sudan of “stealing” it’s oil which was being transported via pipeline to north to Port Sudan & export. While petroleum may have helped both Sudan & South Sudan move forward from poverty toward development, it has manifested itself more as oil on a long simmering fire.

Blog Report: SUDAN, SOUTH SUDAN SANCTIONS? By, Ambassador Mo
UN Security Council adopted a rather direct resolution on Sudan & South Sudan which outlined specific demands of the two countries now engaged in cycles of conflict & left open threat of sanctions. By deeming current situation “a serious threat to international peace & security,” UNSC left open option for further measures, including Chapter VII which allows for sanctions or even military measures. –More–

Blog Report: CHINA SUDAN KINGMAKER? By Ambassador Mo
China needs Sudan/South Sudan oil, but also both South Sudan & Sudan depend on Beijing for the revenues & infrastructure to extract the oil. Khartoum was already dependent upon Beijing for political & military support in view that its top leaders had been indicted by the ICC  & isolated from western democracies as consequence of years of civil war & crimes against own people. –More–

ImageTHE TWO SUDANS – SEPARATION YIELDS MORE OF WAR, LESS PEACE, By Ambassador Mo
“The last thing the people of these two countries need is another war – a war that could claim countless lives, destroy hope & ruin the prospects of peace & stability & prosperity of all Sudanese people,” UN SG Ban Ki-moon warned as tensions between the two countries erupted into full-scale conflict over the last few weeks. –More–

Blog Report: SOUTH SUDAN “INVADES”? By Ambassador Mo
UN Security Council expected to adopt a “Presidential Statement” on ongoing conflict/tensions within & between Sudan & South Sudan. Both the African Union &  UN SC are looking at South Sudan more as “aggressor” particularly with respect to Heglig Region apparently now controlled by its forces. This would be a dramatic shift where until recently Sudan has borne brunt of criticism. -More-
