The struggle of the Standing Rock Sioux & the incredible unity on display right now by Native American tribes from across the land is inspiring the world. As a footnote, a most relevant quote by Edward Abbey: “No, wilderness is not a luxury, but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread. A civilization which destroys what little remains of the wild, the spare, the original, is cutting itself off from its origins and betraying the principle of civilization itself.”

Prince Zeid & I were among the original signatories to the Rome Statute, having spent several months establishing the institutional and legal foundation for the ICC. We worked together to insure sexual violence in conflict & gender based crimes were addressed fully within the Rome Statute & by future court.
