This weekend’s fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao has been hyped as the “Fight of the Century,” & it is the largest purse ever offered, but it cannot compare to the clash between the two undefeated champions who stepped into the ring at a time of tremendous turmoil, change & drama that engulfed America & the world on March 8, 1971.

Does the UN See US “Institutionalized Discrimination” in the Wake of Ferguson?

US civil rights leaders have appealed to the UN over decades of struggle to counter discrimination in law & practice starting with a UN petition in 1947 by NAACP. Such human rights leaders have acted in solidarity with others oppressed & endangered over the decades including when Muhammad 10290198_877247692288421_2931272505655835616_n came to stand in solidarity with Bosnians facing genocide in 1992.

When Muhammad Ali came to the United Nations in 1992 on behalf of Bosnia & Herzegovina & its people, it was not my first time to meet him. His latest appearance during opening of London Olympic ceremonies reminds us of the man who managed to garner respect of even haters and who evidences the complementarities of the global citizen with the American identity. –MORE–
