Witnesses to “The Greatest’s” funeral cortege lined the route to the cemetery in hometown Louisville, Kentucky and followed the hearse on foot, bicycle, & skateboard. TV viewers the world over saluted an undying universal hero and inspiration to young and old.

World Humanitarian Day, 19 August, shares the day with World Orangutan Day: “Pain comes in different packages, but empathy is universal.” To all the courageous aid workers who try to rescue these loving creatures & raise awareness about this great ape whose survival is threatened through habitat loss from industrial plantations, especially palm oil production; the pet trade; & subsistence hunting. World Humanitarian Day, observed annually 19 August, anniversary of 2003 bombing of UN headquarters in Baghdad that killed 22 people, including UN envoy Sergio Vieira de Mello. This year’s observance comes at a time when number of aid workers killed, kidnapped & seriously wounded has reached highest number ever recorded. NASDAQ’s Opening Bell also recognized the day.
