CALLS FOR UN REFORM – Succinct Overview of What’s Happening at the UN General Assembly, By Ambassador Mo (RECOMMENED READ)
Is the United Nations the Titanic with a couple of Captains giving the order or an armada of nations plying toward shared objectives?  Failure to address the Syria crisis to dominance of  P-5 (Big Powers) Veto on Security Council have dominated the debate over last year, but there is also concern about ripple effects of climate change.

Blog Report: DOES UN SESSION START WITH PRAYER? – & a HOPE!, By Ambassador Mo
Religion & culture plays an integral role in work of the United Nations, but a benediction or blessing as seen in US congress for example is not part of tradition. Perhaps it could become unwieldy with broad range of faiths represented in UN’s participants including agnostic & atheist, monotheistic & more traditional/animist. Prayer services are more frequently provided outside formal UNGA sessions.

Blog Report: MORE DIALOGUE OR LIP SERVICE AT UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY? By, Ambassador Muhamed Sacirbey
Is the UN General Assembly worth the investment & time? It depends on you as leader, & capacity to keep one’s ego at that level of hearing & being heard. However, informal conversations as well as more intimate multilateral discussions can produce more meaningful & lasting impacts, such as consensus around priorities & shared goals, like MDGs (Millennium Development Goals) & health initiatives.

WATCH Film Report: CHE GUEVARA AT UN  (In Spanish – English voice-over)
“Comrade Che” has become an iconic figure whose real life is probably overshadowed by the mythology. In this United Nations archive film Che Guevara speaks before UN General assembly – 1964. Note the date is a year after the murder of John F Kennedy & the “Cuban Missile Crisis. Viewing film clip even if you do not speak Spanish or do not agree with Che’s “Revolutionary” Ideology, the charisma is unavoidable.

Although expected to be an ongoing process, we can expect the first Report to be delivered already in June 2012.
